Be A Mentor!
One of the greatest rewards of being a mentor is experiencing the joy of
making a DIFFERENCE in the LIFE of a young person.
By becoming a mentor, and in just one hour a week, you have the opportunity to give hope, friendship, and support to a child in need of caring attention.
At LNESC we know that most adults have something wonderful to offer youth but are worried about making a connection. Through careful screening, we match mentors with mentees based on similar goals, needs, hobbies and interests. We support our mentors with training workshops, scheduled activities, and open communication between mentees, parents, teachers, and the program coordinators. The mentor/mentee relationship is nurtured through ice breakers, structured activities, field trips, and open bonding time.
What is the process for matching mentors and mentees?
Our program utilizes a screening process that helps us make matches that are safe, supportive, nurturing and long-lasting:
Step 1: The process starts with an in-person interview for all potential mentor candidates.
Step 2: Interested candidates then submit an application for approval. Both the interview and application help us gauge suitability as a mentor as well as common interests with possible mentees.
Step 3: All mentors must pass a criminal background check. We provide the documentation and cover the fees for this step.
Step 4: Following acceptance into the program and a clear background check, mentors attend an orientation session to help provide familiarization with our program and to clarify expectations and meeting procedures.
Step 5: The program coordinators then make a match between approved mentors and program participants. This match is personalized to each participant based on interests and needs. All parties are contacted for consent.
Step 6: The coordinators arrange for the first meeting fitting to mentee, mentor, and school schedules.
Dont put it off: your mentee is waiting for you!
